Project Name

My Family's Baking Tips!

Overview

This is about baking desserts for my family.

Objectives

I want to learn how to bake good, delicious food for my family!  I will be researching how to make cake, cookies, and banana bread.

I made wine cake that is delicious!  The cookies were very, very good!  The banana bread was crunchy and banana-y bread.  The recipes I used are below.  You can see how I made them by clicking on the recipe titles (You need Windows Media Player to watch.)

Oatmeal Peanut Butter Wonders

Grace Schober, Millbury, Ohio (from The 47 Best Chocolate Chip Cookies in the World)

Ingredients:

3 cups sifted all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

½ teaspoon baking powder

½ teaspoon salt

1 cup margarine

¾ cup peanut butter

¾ cup brown sugar

¾ cup granulated sugar

2 eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla

1 cup sour cream

2 ½ cups quick oatmeal

1 package (12 ounces) chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 350° F.

Sift together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt; set aside.

Beat together margarine and peanut butter until smooth.  Gradually add the sugars, mixing until well blended.  Add eggs, one at a time, beating thoroughly after each one.  Add vanilla.

Add flour mixture to peanut butter mixture in three additions and sour cream in two, beginning and ending with flour.  Mix well after each addition.  Add oatmeal and chocolate chips and blend well.

Scoop dough with a small ice cream dipper and place on lightly greased cookie sheet.  Grease bottom of drinking glass, dip in sugar, and then press the balls of dough down to a thickness of 1/8 inch.  Bake for about 20 minutes (10 minutes on bottom rack and then 10 minutes on upper rack).  Cool on racks and store in a tight container.  Makes about 3 dozen cookies.

Wine Cake

(from my Va-Va’s cookbook)

Ingredients:

1-18 ½ ounce yellow cake mix

1-3 ½ ounce Jello instant vanilla pudding

2 teaspoons nutmeg

4 eggs

¾ cup oil

¾ to 1 cup sherry (cream)

To prepare pan:

1 ½ slice of oil butter

Spoonful of flour

To dust cake:

Handful of powdered sugar

Turn on oven.  Let sit at 350° F for 35 to 45 minutes.

Butter and flour a bundt pan.

Then mix the ingredients.

The powdered sugar is used to dust on the cake when it is finished cooking and the cake is cooled.

Banana Bread

(from my Mom’s cookbook)

Ingredients:

¾ cup butter

1 ½ cup sugar

2 well beaten eggs

3 bananas (mashed)

1 teaspoon vanilla

2 cups sifted flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

¾ teaspoon salt

¾ cup chopped nuts

½ cup sour cream

2 tablespoons vinegar

Preheat oven to 325° F.

Cream the butter and sugar.  Add the eggs, bananas, and vanilla.

Sift the flour, baking soda, and salt together.

Add the flour mixture to the butter and sugar mixture, alternating with the sour cream.

Add the vinegar and nuts.

Pour into empty coffee cans, or loaf pans, ¾ full.

Bake for 1 hour and 15 minutes.
