My name is Kia.  I live in a house.  Well, duh.  I have a pet cat, two dogs, and a goat!  The cat's name is Sweetiepie, and the dogs' names are Jasmine and Bentley.  My goat lives on the other side of the world and her name is Zsa-Zsa (pronounced: Ja-Ja)  My hair is three different colors and my favorite animals are zebras and flamingos.  I play three instruments, the flute, trombone, and guitar (sometimes the piano)

Not only am I extremely musical, but I'm a photoshop wizard! yea!  I also like to take pictures and I totally love the old, chunky camera I have.

Project Name

80's fashion

objective

I would like to learn the popular accessories, popular hairstyles, SHOES, what everyone had to have in their closet, and make up styles.

(CAUTION: THE VOKI POSTED BELOW IS SOMEWHAT SCARY)

Fashion in the eighties was not about being practical, it was about taking it to the extremes to look cool and fit in.

I got most of my information from http://liketotally80s.com/80s-fashion.html and http://www.fashion-era.com/power_dressing.htm

Make up

Make up was literally painted on.  Heavy blush, heavy eyeliner, and mounds of eye shadow were the key elements to putting on make up.  Eyeshadows were very bright, and electric blue paired with a bold color was quite popular.  Men in the eighties, were also painting on their make up.

Closet Essentials

leg warmers-basically a large footless sock worn around your calves

parachute pants-pants that are made of a shiny, synthetic material originally worn by break-dancers

acid-washed denim-denim that is treated with chemicals, to look faded and worn out

members-only jackets- nylon zip up coats.  "When you put it on something happens." was their tagline

guess jeans-tight fitting jeans which cost around $60, today that would be about $95-$140 a pair!!

oversized shirts-really big shirts worn over tight jeans or leggings, usually with a large belt.  Super comfy!!

knit ties-ties that guys wore.  They had a square bottom.

stirrup pants-pants that come in near the ankle.  At the bottom there was an elastic strap that went around your heel

Shoes

Reebok high tops- originally basketball and aerobics shoes. They first came out in black and white, but soon neon and other colors were added.

Chuck taylors by Converse-Chucks were originally only sold in only a few colors, but of course, as soon as they caught on, they were sold in every color imaginable.  There's a picture of my custom converse at the top of the page.

Jellies-plastic shoes/sandals

Lace up Doc Martens-BIG, clunky lace up boots that were worn with anything and absolutely everything

Low high heels-high heels that aren't crazy high, but are still high

Hair

HUGE!!!  Hair in the 80's was HUGE!  It was teased to the max, and held up with all kinds of goop and spray.  New wave hairstyles were also quite popular.  They were very asymmetrical.  Today new wave hairstyles would be catagorized as goth or punk.  Something else that was big in the 80's were rat tails and duck tails.

Accessories

Large jewels were very popular.  So was matching your hand bags to your shoes.  Different colors and patterns of tights and pantyhose were also very common.  Swatch watches were plastic watches that were very popular.  Today some swatch watches are collectors items.  Young girls in school gave each other friendship pins.  They would take different colored bead and put them onto safety pins.  Each color meant something different, and the pins were attached to shoelaces.  Sunglasses were an must, and many different styles were popular.  Wayfarers (MY FAVORITE!!!!)  and aviators (both by Ray-Ban) were probably the most popular though.

Some huge 80's fashion's icons include Cyndi Lauper, Madonna, Princess Diana, and Michael Jackson.

 this is Cyndi lauper
